Not in the clear yet . . . .

I thought it was going great and we were on the home stretch, but when I came home, a couple of Aidan's stitches were out and the t-shirt was a little, you know, bloody. He had the cone on so not sure how that happened, but they are clever. So, off to the docs we went. Aidan is now on antibiotics and his stitches may not come out on Thursday as anticipated. The doc didn't replace them, because there are two deeper layers of tissue underneaththe skin layer that have just as many stitches, so the area will probably be ok without them. But, they may all stay in 5-7 more days. More cone-age for him. He's still happy, just more pills and more time.

On another note, mom totally visited baby robin a few times, fed him, tried to coax him to fly, then just called for him from above for 1.5 hours. He just yelped back. But, finally, when it became dark, he flew to a tree. It took him the entire yard to gain some height and then when he landed he fell down a number of branches, but he was fine. He was hanging out in the yard again this morning, visited by mom, but I haven't seen him this afternoon. Robins are everywhere so I might see other kids. YAY.

Cystic Pilomatricoma Oh My

We have major happy faces right now - the mass was a cystic pilomatricoma, a BENIGN tumor, a very strange thing I might add. It is multi-lobulated and had odd things growing in each lobe. I will stop there. The doc got all of the surrouding inflammatory tissue where it could possibly expand to  out. It is gone! So, here is my dog with no malignant cancer. YAY!

On another note, this little guy has been in my backyard calling for his mom for about an hour. He is very fluffy and his chest is all spotted. He bounces ok, but I saw him get stuck in some longer grass, and then he had to take a nap because that wore him out so much. Where is mom? It takes all of my being to not try to help in any way possible and to stay away. This is just pulling at my heart strings. But, I keep telling myself that staying away will help the most. Is that right? He just keeps on calling to mom, its sooooo concerning, mostly because its starting to get dark and we have stray cats in the neighborhood, and raccoons and foxes . . . Nature will take care of it, right?

And on yet another note, another little guy keeps digging up a small area of my grass where I planted grass seed. The area is a preteen squirrel-sized indent now, and he keeps rolling around in it. Its super cute to watch and he is just having fun. I tried to get a video of it, but I was inside and that didn't quite work. Here he is drinking from the bird fountain, and you can hear the robin in the background.

He did very well in surgery, but . . .

When I picked him up at the vet, he had his cone on and he just wagged his tail slowly while I talked with the vet. Right now, he is relaxing and comfortable. Warning - the size of his incision is shocking.
They excised the lump and lots of other tissue. I believe they are worried about this. I teared up a little bit but pushed it back because I had to pay attention to the post-surgical instructions. Look at the large amount of stitches - I mean at least a 100 maybe more. I came home with Rimadyl and Tramadol for pain  and um, something else.
They did a horizontal incision for many reasons, one of which is if there is a need for radiation treamtent, this way works better. Dr. Aducci consulted with two other doctors about how to do the incision. With this horizontal incision, there is more tension, so he cannot go outside for any reason whatsoever for 14 days, except to pee, and for that he will be on a leash.

I took his elizabethan cone off for this evening. He will have to wear the cone for 14 days, along with this t-shirt. This is pretty overwhelming, but I believe he will be okay.
